Currently in the 6th Grade Social Studies, we are learning about Ancient Egypt. Students right now are working on creating a set of Hieroglyphs using their names to understand how hard it would have been for the Ancient Egyptians to complete even a small number of Hierglyphs. Students will use this as a platform to help them understand as well the care that was put into the art of the time.
In 6th Grade Religion, The students are learning about the mercy of God in the stories involving the fall of man stories. This includes the Garden of Eden, the Tower of Babel, and the Story of Noah and the great flood. Students are learning that through their actions, there is good which can be done, and that in the event of a bad choice, the students understand that the sacrament of Reconciliation is the way one makes amends to God.
In 5th grade Social Studies, the students are starting to read about the early Native Americans and how they settled in the United States. They will also learn a little bit about how Archaeologists gather information on cultures that existed before the current age of humanity.
In 5th grade Religion we have started a chapter on the Eucharist. Students are going to be taught how vital it is to understand that without the Eucharist, there is no Roman Catholic faith. Students are going to understand that it is a must know that the sacrament of Eucharist is more than just a symbol of the Last Supper, but a true transubstantiation from bread and wine to the treu body and blood of Jesus. PRAISE BE UNTO HIM!
There is a test for 5th grade on the Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday the 15th. 5th grade students are encouraged to attend a Confirmation Mass in order to better understand the value of the sacrament and help in understanding what they will (hopefully) go through within the next few years.
In my classroom, I provide a few texts which will empower students to read about things which are a part of the lessons, but we have little time to cover in class due to time constraints. An example is a book on D-Day. The book is for students who would like to learn about it, and get it from a primary source, the soldiers who participated in the invasion.
There are other provided texts to encourage students to read, regardless of their level. All books students borrow from me are requested to stay in the classroom so others can have the opportunity to read them.
It is requested that students supply $3 for a music composition notebook for their music class. If there are issues beyond your controld which prevent you from getting one for your student, please send me an email.
